In our Kids Connect Ministry, our mission is to help kids learn about God, connect with others, and contribute to changing the world. We believe that kids have the capacity to walk intimately with God, and we love to see them learn about Him and connect with Him.
However, we believe many churches today do not raise children in the faith in a biblical way. While churches will often separate children from the adults in worship, we choose to keep them in worship with us. You don't teach a kid to love hockey by making them sit in another room while you watch the game. You let them experience the game, even if they don't understand it, explaining things to them as you go, letting them see how much you love it. We do the same thing with worship. This instills a life-long love for worship and prepares them to be adult Christians.
We also believe what the Bible says about who should teach children the faith. Ephesians 6:4 says, "Fathers, ...bring [your children] up in the training and instruction of the Lord." Parents are the primary teachers of children. So, as a church, we invest in training parents to bring up their children in the faith rather than do it for them. We do this through our "Every Home A Sanctuary" program.
All that being said though, we still offer Kids Connect on Sundays as a "kickstart" to a child's spiritual education. It's short, simple, and to the point, but it's a great way to get started down the path of doing what God commands for our children.
